What does a being a member mean?
Anyone can do community service with Circle K. However, you must be a dues-paid member of the organization to participate any of the following:
How do I become a member?
Please fill out the application on the home page. Each member is required to pay $20 in yearly dues (or $25 to purchase a shirt). You may turn in your membership form and dues at the weekly meeting or bring it to the CKI Office. Checks can be made payable to "UNM CKI."
What does my dues money go toward?
Circle K is an international organization so your dues go towards paying international, district, and club dues. You can purchase a club T-shirt for an additional five dollars, if included in your annual dues and membership application. If not included in your membership application, the cost increases to ten dollars per t-shirt depending on how many people want a shirt). Your dues also provide resources like a monthly magazine and scholarship opportunities, in addition to paying for club necessities like transportation and service project supplies.
How else does Circle K raise money?
Circle K works hard to keep our costs of membership low by looking for money in other places. We raise funds by working at Zozobra and Balloon Fiesta every year. We also hold fundraisers quite often in order to keep our dues low.
Service
How do I sign up for service projects?
Visit our Current Members page Upcoming Projects. You can click the link from "Volunteer Spot" to sign up for a project. Once you click the link you will see a description of the project and the times we need volunteers. You do not need to create a Volunteer Spot account. Just use your email address and select confirm. You will receive email reminders about the projects you've signed up for.
Are there service hour requirements?
UNM Circle K has a Member in Good Standing system. While we do not have service hour requirements, our Member in Good Standing policy is in place to recognize those members that exceed expectations in their involvement in CKI.
To be a Member in Good Standing, you must receive 1/3 of the total points possible for the month. Meetings, service projects, and socials all count toward points.
The benefits of being in good standing:
- You are eligible to attend Fall Rally, District Convention (DCON), and International Convention (ICON).
(This will be calculated by the completion of 1/3 of the total service hours for the year up to the point of the convention, not upon your status of Member in Good Standing in each month preceding the event).
- You are eligible to apply for the CKI scholarship given out at DCON.
- You are eligible to be Member of the Month.
- If you are the member with the most service hours at the end of the semester, you will be recognized at our induction ceremony.
The club secretary will record your hours and will let you know whether or not you are in good standing at the end of each month.
What types of projects does Circle K perform?
There are numerous service projects each week varying in date, time, and type. We have projects spanning a wide range of interests including children, health, elderly, hunger, housing, and nature. If you do not find a project that interests you or if you have a new project idea, please contact the Vice President and she can help you set up a project.
